A great deal of time and energy is invested in repairing, restoring, and improving the theater, while preserving its original 1940's style and charm. We have built a thrust stage, purchased a stage curtain, restored the seats, and added energy efficient exterior doors. The theater is accesible to the disabled in the community with its level entrances, wide aisles and restroom entrances, space for wheelchair patrons, and reserved parking with no curb. We update and maintain lighting and sound systems for drama, musicals, and community programs. We received the Governor's Volunteer Service Award in 1981. GCAA is an all volunteer group with 275 members and a board of 14. The purpose of GCAA is to conduct, perform, create, sponsor and promote cultural arts and charitable, benevolent, educational, civic, patriotic, social, literary, scientific an related activities; including but not limited to, the establishment, maintenance and operation of cultural centers and facilities for said activities. It is the GCAA's aim to bring arts opportunities at low cost or no charge to people living in a rural area with limited access to other arts. In a population with a high percentage of elderly, low income, and an unstable economy, there is a great need for low cost, nearby arts offerings. |
